Britain is a nation of biscuit lovers, from Rich Teas to Hobnobs to custard creams, but which is the best biscuit is always a hotly debated contest.

A 2014 study found that Rich Tea biscuits were the best of dunking, with the biscuit still holding together after 20 seconds submerged in milky tea.

However, it turns out that Britons look for more than just dunking success in their biscuits, as a survey of the nation’s favourite biscuits, commissioned by machinery firm KernPack, found Hobnobs to be the most popular.

From the 315 people surveyed, 18 percent chose the Hobnob as their favourite, while chocolate digestive were the second most popular with 12 percent of the vote and bourbons third with 10 percent.

Shortbreads only just missed a top three finish with nine percent of the vote, while despite their strength under water, Rich Teas came near the bottom of the 19 biscuits listed in the survey.
