US senator John McCain is no fan of Putin’s regime in Russia, and after being officially sanctioned by Moscow he used a recent interview on Late Night to air his grievances.

During the interview with Seth Meyers, McCain joked about the impact of Russian sanctions on his holiday plans, saying:

“He sanctioned me, which means no spring break in Siberia”

McCain was on the programme to argue his case for supporting the pro-EU demonstrators in Ukraine by offering them money, EU status, and weapons to fend off advanced by Russian “thugs” in the east of the country after the recent annexation of Crimea by Moscow.

The senator went on to describe Russia as:

“A gas station run by a Mafia that is masquerading as a country.”
