Two 24-hour strikes planned for later this week have been called off by the unions following “progress in talks over the introduction of Tube night running”.

Tube workers have been in dispute with London Underground since the announcement of the Night Tube service and changes to their rotas and working conditions.

Unite union said that the suspension of industrial action planned for later this week was a “gesture of goodwill”, but have proposed new strike dates of 8 and 10 September if a deal is not reached.

Unite regional officer Hugh Roberts said:

“There are still some remaining sticking points, but we feel sufficient progress has been made to suspend industrial action as an act of goodwill.

“We will continue to approach talks with London Underground in a positive manner. We trust that London Underground management seize this opportunity to reach a deal that fully addresses our members’ concerns and secures a successful future for night running on the Tube.”

Aslef, the drivers’ union said that it had already decided not to strike before Unite made its announcement.

The Night Tube was planned to launch on 12 September, but unions believe it may be delayed because of the ongoing row.
