British universities dominate the rankings for the best universities in the world, according to the 2014/15 QS World University Rankings.

The University of Cambridge and Imperial College London share the number two spot in the rankings, while the University of Oxford and University College London (UCL) share fifth place in a top ten otherwise made up of US higher eduction institutions.

British universities made up 19 of the top 100 institutions in the rankings, which rates universities on academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international student ratio, and international staff ratio.

Other UK universities that made the top 100 included Kings College London (16), University of Edinburgh (17), Bristol University (29), University of Manchester (30), University of Glasgow (55), University of Warwick (61), University of Birmingham (64), University of Sheffield (69), London School of Economics (71), University of Nottingham (77), University of St Andrews (88), Durham University (92), University of Southampton (94), University of Leeds (97) and Queen Mary, University of London (98).
