The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) has apologised after claims that a body was left next to dustbins outside an ambulance station overnight rather than transporting it to the mortuary.

EEAST said that it is “very sorry for what happened” and has launched an investigation into the alleged incident, but did not admit any wrongdoing.

The Wisbech Standard first published the claims it was approached by a whistleblower. The newspaper reported that the body of James Harrison, 32, of Littleport, was left next to bins at Ely Ambulance Station instead of being taken directly to a mortuary at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
