A prominent UKIP supporter, who was promoted as the “future face” of the party by Nigel Farage, has revealed that she will no longer campaign for the party due to its anti-immigration rhetoric.

Alexandra Swann, 25, was once hailed as the future of UKIP, with Nigel Farage proudly declaring that “the Swann has migrated” when she defected from the Conservative party, where she was deputy chairwoman of Conservative Future.

Describing why she is no longer campaigns for UKIP, but remains a member of the party, Swann said on her website:

I joined UKIP because I believe in low taxes, national sovereignty, grammar schools and a sensible energy policy. UKIP want a points based immigration system; for as long as we remain a part of the EU, I agree. However, I do not like the way UKIP has chosen to focus on immigration and was uncomfortable with the scare mongering about Bulgarians and Romanians that we witnessed in the latter part of last year.
