Nick Clegg has accused Jeremy Paxman of “sneering” about politics after Russell Brand called for a “revolution” in politics on Newsnight two weeks ago.

The Deputy Prime Minister was being interviewed on London radio station LBC when he called Paxman a hypocrite, saying:

“Here is a guy who gets paid a million pounds, thereabouts, paid for by taxpayers. He lives off politics and he spends all his time sneering at politics”

Paxman chastised Brand on-air for not voting, and claiming that the political apathy of the younger population was due to the “lies, treachery, and deceit” by those in power in recent years from the Iraq War to MPs’ expenses. However, the newsnight presenter later admitted that he too did not vote in the last election because he saw the choice of possible candidates as “so unappetising”.
