A Taiwanese tourist was so focuses on checking her Facebook feed that she accidentally walked off a pier in Australia.

The tourist fell from St Kilda’s pier in Melbourne into the cold water below, and reportedly did not know how to swim. Luckily, passers-by spotted the woman in distress floundering about 20m from the pier and called the police to rescue her.

A local police constable said that whilst the woman could not swim, the backpack she was wearing likely acted as a buoyancy-aid and kept her afloat for 20 minutes before the police were called and managed to rescue her.

The woman reportedly managed to keep hold of her phone throughout the whole ordeal, possibly an update to the distracting social network “whoops, I’m in the water”.
