In a rare slip-of-the-tongue, Pope Francis accidentally swore during his weekly blessing in St Peter’s Square in the Vatican on Sunday, offering much hilarity for the online masses, with a number of clips of his gaff already on YouTube.
While delivering his speech, the Pope said “cazzo”, which translates as “fuck”, rather than caso, which means “case” or “example”, before quickly pausing and correcting himself. The speech should have said:
“If each one of us does not amass riches only for oneself, but half for the service of others. In this case, the providence of God will become visible through this gesture of solidarity.”
However, the Pope has found a lot of goodwill from people around the world for his promotion of peace and reconciliation between religions, and softening that Catholic stance on a number of issues, and most people thought his mistake should be forgiven.
The vocal slip did not overshadow the message of the blessing, where the Pope asked for prayers for Ukraine and called on the international community to work towards peace and harmony.
