A still from the Disney/Pixar film Up (2009)

Up is widely considered one of Pixar’s best films, managing to both touch on the feelings of love and loss as well as understanding the generation gap. The defining image of the movie is the picture of Carl Fredricksen (the grumpy old man voiced by Edward Asner) and Russell (the curious young explorer voiced by Jordan Nagai) attaching enough balloons to Carl’s house for it to take off like a hot air balloon.

Now cluster balloonist Jonathan Trappe has decided to recreate that scene with his own “flying house” in preparation for his attempted flight across the Atlantic Ocean using only helium balloons.
