The world faces a surge of cancer unless countries begin to focus on the dangers of smoking, alcohol, and obesity according to a new report from the World Health Organisation.

In the World Cancer Report predicts that the number of cancer cases will reach 24 million per year by 2035, with the rise coming predominantly from the developing world.

The report said that there was “alarming” naivety about the role of diet in cancer, and countries should consider restrictions on alcohol and sugar. The world does not have the technology or medicine to treat our way out of the cancer problem, and changing people’s diets and attitudes to smoking and drinking is the best preventative measure.t
