Ukraine’s President Yanukovych has disappeared from Kiev, and MPs have voted to impeach him and bring forward presidential elections to May 25th after months of protest.

Yanukovych is believed to have left the country’s capital after what he described as a “coup” and fled to the east of the country, where the people speak Russian and still support the embattled president.

MPs in the Ukrainian parliament had a minutes silence to remember those that have lost their lives in the “Euromaidan” protests, and then voted to ouster and impeach Yanukovych in his absence.

Former Prime Minister and leader of the Orange Revolution Yulia Tymoshenko has been released from prison.

Security and armed forces said that they will not stand against the people, as protesters pulled down statues of Vladimir Lenin around the country.

The events of today have superseded the deal signed yesterday which called for the formation of a national unity government immediately and a presidential elections by December.
