The Al-Farouq Brigade is one of the most feared of the Free Syrian Army and to its supporters is a leading unit in the struggle to overthrow the Assad regime. To others, they are seen as the guilty perpetrators of kidnappings and other abuses.
In the clip above from Channel 4, French filmmaker Mani joins the Al-Farouq brigade on the frontline, with one fighter noting the changing nature of the conflict:
“It’s not about the army anymore or toppling the regime. It’s a sectarian conflict now.”
