A Milan court has ruled that former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi must perform a year’s community service at an elderly care home.

The 77-year-old billionaire must visit the church-run Fondazione Sacra Famiglia care home, which houses 2,000 patients, at east once a week.

He is also banned from meeting people with a criminal conviction, and cannot travel outside the Lombardy region except for his stay in Rome between Tuesday and Thursday each week.

The ruling comes after Berlusconi’s conviction for tax fraud over his Mediaset company’s acquisition of TV rights in the 1990s, with the elderly lothario spared jail time because of the Italian legal system’s leniency towards those over 70.
