Two former prison officers who had been arrested on suspicion of of corrupt payments, have been released on bail.

The man and woman, both in their mid-forties, were arrested in Suffolk on Wednesday as part of Operation Elveden, an investigation into allegations of inappropriate payments to police and other public officials. It is being supervised by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and running alongside Operation Weeting, the MPS inquiry into phone-hacking.

The pair were arrested for alleged misconduct in a public office and conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office and are the 88th and 89th to be arrested as part of the operation.

They have been bailed until June.
