The mother of a convicted robber who killed an autistic man with a single punch has described his crime as “not a big deal”.

Lewis Gill, 20, was caught on CCTV punching Andrew Young, 40, in the face and causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on the road, before walking off last November. Young later died of his injuries.

Gill admitted manslaughter and was sentenced to four years in jail last Friday, with many complaining to the Attorney General about his “lenient” sentence.

However, Gill’s mother, Sherron O’Hagan, 41, dismissed the severity of his actions, telling the Daily Mail:

“It was just an accident. It’s not a big deal. This will all be forgotten tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, the mother of the victim has described Gill’s four-year sentence as an “absolute joke”.
