The killer of a 48-year-old teacher in 1995 is to be released from prison, the independent Parole Board have confirmed.
Learco Chindamo, 33, was 15-years-old when he stabbed to death headteacher Philip Lawrence who came to the defence of a 13-year-old who was being assaulted at the gates of St George’s School in Maida Vale, north west London.
Chindamo was concivted of murder in 1996 and served 14 years of a life sentence before being released in June 2010. However, he was soon re-arrested and sent back to jail for breaching the conditions of his parole.
The Parole Board have now agreed that Chindamo will be re-released, saying:
“We can confirm that a three member panel of the Board has directed the release of Learco Chindamo.
The decision to release is a matter for the Board, which is independent – practical arrangements for the release are a matter for the Secretary of State. We are unable to comment further on the details of this case.”
The news of Cindamo’s release comes in the wake of the murder of Spanish teacher Anne Maguire at Corpus Christie College in Leeds on Monday.
