The probe examining claims of abuse of NHS patients by Jimmy Savile has been expanded to further hospitals according to health secretary Jeremy Hunt.

The late BBC radio DJ and presenter is alleged to have abused hundreds of victims, with the hospital inquiry broadened to more hospitals than the original list of Broadmoor, Stoke Mandeville and Leeds General hospitals. The new hospitals included in the investigation have not been named.

Operation Yewtree, the Scotland Yard investigation into all of Savile’s alleged crimes is due to report in 2014.

The scandal over Savile’s alleged crimes and subsequent ongoing police investigation only occurred after his death in 2011 aged 84.
