HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter

Investigations have begun into the crash of a US military HH-60G Pave Hawk in Norfolk at 19:00 GMT on Tuesday night.

The helicopter from the 48th Fighter Wing was flying a routine low-level training exercise from RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk when it crashed at a nature reserve at Cley next the Sea and killed all four people aboard.

The A149 through Cley is currently closed, and investigators have cordoned off a 400m area to examine the crash site and determine the cause of the accident. The public have been urged to avoid the site due to the live munitions that the helicopter was carrying that need to be recovered.

The investigation is likely to be handed over form police to the Ministry of Defence, Air Accident Investigation Branch and US Air Force investigation authorities once the bodies have been recovered and removed by the coroner.

The names of those killed in the crash will be released once next-of-kin have been informed.
