BA Flight 762 to Oslo carrying 75 passengers had to make an emergency landing at Heathrow this morning, after the aircraft apparently hit a flock of birds causing one of the engines to catch on fire, with a smoke trail see across London’s morning skyline.

Heathrow Airport closed both runways after the incident as fire teams rushed to the Airbus A319, and all passengers were safely evacuated. One passenger tweeted the following picture of the plane after he was evacuated:

The southern runway has now reopened after the debris was cleared, but the northern runway remains closed

The MET Police have said that the incident is not being treated as terrorism
