The charges against Freddie Starr have been dropped, with the comedian told he will not face charges over historic sex offence allegations due to lack of evidence.
Starr, 71, was arrested in November 2012 as part of Operation Yewtree, the police investigation into historic sexual offences opened in the wake of the Jimmy Savile revelations.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have now told Starr, real name Fred Fowell, that he will not face charges for any of the 13 allegations of sexual offences that he was alleged to have committed because of a lack of evidence.
Baljit Ubhey, the chief crown prosecutor of CPS London, said:
“Having carefully reviewed this case, we have decided that there is insufficient evidence to prosecute Freddie Starr in relation to allegations of sexual offences made by 13 individuals.
Each allegation was considered on its own merits and we have concluded that the available evidence does not offer a realistic prospect of conviction for any of the alleged offences.”
