A young boy has been arrested after a number of parents at a Wolverhampton school complained of their children being stabbed with a diabetes finger-prick pen.
The unnamed 11-year-old boy was arrested in Low Hill area of Wolverhampton after police found evidence that at least 20 children at Moreton School had been jabbed with the lancing device, putting them at risk of blood-born diseases.
Affected pupils have been advised to have precautionary Hepatitis B vaccinations, but there are no current reports of any complications from being stabbed with the potentially contaminated device.
Head teacher Carl Williams said:
“We take the health, wellbeing and safety of all our students extremely seriously and we have worked closely with the health experts from Public Health England and the local NHS to advise on the best course of action for the students affected.
“We would like to assure all parents and guardians that we are treating this incident with the gravity required.”
The suspect has been released on bail until July.
