Josh Mease has chosen the desolate and rather ambiguous region of Lapland for the name by which he records and releases music – and that sense of both isolation and hard-to-place obscurity is prevalent also in his latest musical offering, Where Did It Go? Subtle keys and synths drift along from start-to-finish, the single-paced instrumentation a perfect accompaniment for Mease’s soothing vocal drawl.
The track, along with the rest of the new album (including the previously released Unwise) was recorded in Mease’s Brooklyn apartment and contains acoustic tracks that have been shaped and sculpted by many of the attributes that he learned while studying and playing jazz back in Texas. Where Did It Go? is taken from Lapland’s forthcoming, self-titled record, which is set for release on March 26th via Hundred Pockets Records.
