Introducing themselves with the slogan “Californian shoegaze at its finest”, Highlands tell no lie, except for their possibly misleading genre assignment.
Their music undoubtedly takes influence from category founders likeMy Blood Valentineand Slowdive, but they’re significantly heavier than their contemporaries. It’s like putting The Pains of Being Pure At Heart on a strict diet of heavy metal guitar riffs and Wolf Parade. They even look the part.
Formed in late 2010 Highlands have already landed press from Dummy Magazine, Buzz Bands and Sirens of Decay, and are causing more than a little fuss locally; their latest album Singularity, out now, was even reviewed by OC Weekly. Take that, competition!
