The Eurythmics popular Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This has been found to be the nation’s most misquoted song according to a new survey commissioned by music streaming company Spotify.

After polling 1,350 British music fans, 28% said that they misquoted the synth-pop classic, with many for some reason believing that Annie Lennox sings the words “Sweet dreams are made of cheese, who am I to disagree?”

Rihanna’s We Found Love came in second with a number of people understanding the lyrics to be “found dove in a soapless place”, and KD Lang’s Constant Craving was third with people thinking the title line to be “can’t stand gravy”.

The UK’s list was notably different to that of US music lovers where the top spot went to Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, Blinded By the Light where people believed the lyric to be ” “Blinded by the light … wrapped up like a douche when you’re rollin’ in the night”. Second for them was Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze where people though the line was “Scuse me, while I kiss this guy”, and in third was The Clash’s Rock the Casbah, where people understood the title line to be “rock the cat box”.
