JK Rowling’s Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be turned into a movie trilogy.
The book, published in 2001, purports to be Harry Potter’s copy of the Hogwart’s textbook of the same name mentioned in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and describes the magical creatures in the Harry Potter universe.
The book will be turned into a trilogy of “megamovies” by movie studio Warner Brothers according to CEO Kevin Tsujihara, who was interviewed by the New York Times.
Many though the convincing Rowling to expand the Harry Potter universe was a non-starter, but she was quickly convinced by Tsujihara, as Rowling described the process:
“When I say he made Fantastic Beasts happen, it isn’t PR-speak but the literal truth.
We had one dinner, a follow-up telephone call, and then I got out the rough draft that I’d thought was going to be an interesting bit of memorabilia for my kids and started rewriting!”
