Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has died in New York according to US media.
Hoffman, 46, was found dead in his apartment on Bethune Street in the West Village neighbourhood of Manhattan, but medical officials are yet to comment on his cause of death.
The actor was found in the bathroom of his apartment around 11:15 a.m. by screenwriter David Katz, who called the emergency services on 911.
The father of three rose to prominence as an actor in the 1990s in films such as Paul Thomas Anderson’s Boogie Nights (1997) and The Big Lebowski (1998).
He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2005 biographical film Capote, and received three Academy Award nominations as Best Supporting Actor in Charlie Wilson’s War (2007), Doubt (2008) and The Master (2012). He also received three Tony Award nominations for his work in the theatre.
His most recent film role was as Plutarch Heavensbee in the Hunger Games series.
