New York 1939 in colour

At nearly three minutes, this film by French tourist Jean Vivier on 16mm Kodachrome, captures street scenes and city views from New York in the summer of 1939, all lovingly digitised by the Romano Archive.

Vivier captures scenes from Chinatown, Harlem, Midtown, and other locales around the city, showing fountains, buses, taxis, and everyone looking very dignified in their hats of all descriptions. All that backed with some lazy, smoky jazz to set the mood of the times.
