Scene from The Mistletoe Bough (1904)
A horror movie from 1904 and directed by Percy Stow has been restored and made available to watch online with a new score produced by Pete Wiggs of Saint Etienne.
The Misteltoe Bough is believed to have been made in Clarendon Studios in Selhurst, London, and tells the story of a deathly game of hide-and-seek between a newly wed husband and wife.
The origins of the story can be dated back to a short piece in the Monthly and Boston Review published in 1809 called Melancholy Occurrence, which subsequently inspired a poem, a play, and this film.
The nine minute film was restored by the British Film Institute (BFI) as part of its ongoing celebration of gothic cinema.
You can watch the entire silent movie now at the BFI website
