The Football Association (FA) are considering a proposal to allow Premier League clubs to enter their ‘B’ teams into the Football League.

FA chairman Greg Dyke’s commission on the future of football in England is to propose reforms where a ‘fifth division’ would be set up, where ‘B’ teams from Premiership and Championship clubs could enter and gain promotion to the Football League, according to Sky News.

The proposal has the aim of providing young 18-23 year-old English players with opportunities and experience before they make the selection for their club’s first team, and improving the number of English players in the top flight.

However, the proposal is expected to meet strong opposition from both Premier League and Championship clubs, with some already making their opposition clear.

Dyke will present his proposals on Wednesday at Wembley.
