Three-time Tour de France winner and GB Olympic cycling medallist Chris Froome was knocked off his bike in a hit and run while training in southern France.

The Team Sky competitor was cycling in the hills of Beausoleil, near his Monaco home, in preparation for the Tour de France in July when he says he was “rammed on purpose by an impatient driver who followed me onto the pavement!”

The 31-year-old said he was “ok” after the incident and posted a photograph of his “totally” bicycle on Twitter.

Next month, Froome is expected to take part in the week-long warm up event for the Tour de France, the Criterium du Dauphine, before defending his Tour title.
