Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4)

Sony’s PlayStation 4 (PS4) sold around 250,000 units in its first two days on sale in the UK, surpassing the number set by the Xbox One which sold 150,000 units in the same time-frame, and breaking the PSP’s record of 185,000 units sold in its first week.

The PS4 went on sale in the UK and across Europe on 29th November, with fans queueing up outside Sony’s PS4 Lounge in Covent Garden in London with hype that could have been an Apple launch from 2010.

Gamers are buying a variety of titles with their new console, but the most popular games sold so far have been Call of Duty: Ghosts, FIFA 14, Battlefield 4, and Killzone: Shadow Fall – all games which are making the most of the latest and greatest graphic processing hardware in Sony’s flagship device.

In the US, Microsoft’s XBox managed to sell an impressive 1 million consoles with 24 hours when it launched on 21st November, with the PS4 taking twice as long to reach that milestone.

These huge sales volumes have caused some issues for Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN), with users reporting that thay were unable to connect their new devices over the weekend to install updates due to the heavy traffic hitting the servers, although the situation appears to have been remedied now.
