The high profile Conservative MP only entered parliament at the last election in 2010, but admitted to the local Northamptonshire Telegraph that she has been struggling to juggle the responsibilities of her family alongside parliament with her husband living away in New York whilst managing the rock band Metallica. She plans to move there with their three children to join him according to the paper.
When she launched her Twitter-competitor MENSHN social network startup a couple of months ago, many questioned how she could devote enough time to running that alongside the strains of being a member of parliament and a family life, and it appears that politics was what had to go.
On the change she said:
“I am completely devastated. It’s been unbelievably difficult to manage family life…We have been trying to find a way forward with the prime minister’s office but I just can’t spend as much time with my children as I want to.”
This morning she tweeted:
I am devastated by the necessary decision that I have had to announce today. It has been an incredible honour serving the people of #CorbyEN
