A boxer shocked fans by launching an attack on the referee after losing a bout in the ring in Zagreb, Croatia.

Croatian Vido Loncar made a mild protest against the referee when he called off the European Youth Boxing Championships light-heavyweight bout against Lithuanian Algirdas Baniulus and returned to his corner.

However, when the two fighters were called back to the centre of the ring for the judge to declare Baniulis the victor, Loncar attacked the referee with a series of punches. The boxer continued to beat the referee when he was on the floor until security guards intervened and dragged the enraged fighter from the ring by his feet.

The referee was helped to his feet by other trainers and officials, while Loncar was escorted out of the arena.

Vido now faces a lifetime ban from the sport for his actions.
