A boyband singer was met with an ambulance at Glasgow airport after overheating and passing out twice during a flight because he was wearing all his clothes to avoid an excess baggage fee.

James McElvar, 19, of Scottish boyband Rewind was boarding an EasyJet flight from London Stansted to Glasgow when he was told by staff that he had too much hand luggage.

Rather than paying the £45 excess baggage fee, McElvar decided to wear all of his clothes, insulating himself in 12 layers, including six t-shirts, four jumpers, three pairs of jeans, two pairs of jogging bottoms, two jackets and two hats.

Having thought he had got one over on EasyJet, the singer attempted to remove his layers as soon as he boarded, but was told by flight attendants that he had to remain in his seat until the flight had taken off.

Once in the air, however, he had soon started to dramatically overheat.

McElvar complained to his manager that he was feeling unwell, who informed the cabin crew of the situation. They decided to move him to an empty row at the back of the plane and give him a plastic bag in case he was sick.

Bag in hand, James managed to cover the row of seats and the aisle in his vomit before passing out.

A paramedic on board put the singer in the recovery position to avoid him choking on his own vomit,

By the time the flight arrived at Glasgow, an ambulance was waiting for McElvar to escort him to hospital, where he was able to fully recover.
