A fisherman has managed to catch an 3.35m, 365kg shark off Florida’s Gulf Coast beach.
It took Joey Polk, already a record-breaking land-based shark angler, more than an hour to reel in the huge shortfin mako shark, according to WKRG.
He has refused to disclose the exact location where he caught the ocean predator, to prevent people from flocking to the site, and had hoped to keep the catch a secret. However, an impressed passer-by snapped a photograph of the shark in the back of Polk’s pick-up truck at a petrol station and posted it to social media, where the image promptly went viral.

95% of the fish Polk and his relatives catch are released back in to the ocean, but some record breakers and those too weak to swim are kept, and the meat shared.
