Police in Bangladesh have arrested three people, including a British citizen, in connection with the murders of two secular bloggers.

Prominent bloggers Avijit Roy and Ananta Bijoy Das were hacked to death for publishing articles criticising religion online in a country that is nominally secular.

Police say that British-Bangladeshi Touhidur Rahman, who is alleged to be the financier of the Islamist militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), planned and organised the killings.

Two other alleged members of the group were arrested in Dhaka alongside Rahman, and police hope that their interrogations will provide evidence about a total of four murders of secular bloggers this year.

Last week, police arrested two other suspected members of ABT for the brutal murder of atheist blogger Niloy Neel, who was hacked to death by a gang of men armed with machetes in his home in Dhaka earlier this month.
