A US tourist has been killed in a lion attack at South African wildlife park near Johannesburg in South Africa.

The woman was taking photographs of a female lion through an open window as the lion approached the car. The lion then lunged at the woman, injuring her and the male driver.

Lion Park staff rushed to the scene to scare the lion away, and the driver of the vehicle sped away.

Both the woman and the driver received treatment, but the woman later succumbed to her injuries.

The safari park has said that they will not euthanise the lion, but have put prominent signs warning drivers to keep their windows closed, and also pass leaflets to every car that enters with the same warning.
