London Underground workers part of the RMT Union have backed five days of strike action over the closure of ticket offices.

Staff will walk out at 21:00 BST on 28 April for 48 hours, and again at 21:00 BST on 5 May for three days in order to protest against the closure of all 260 Tube ticket offices and the resultant loss of 960 jobs.

News of these strikes comes after a failure of talks between the union and London Underground and a station by station review of the ticket office closures agreed to after a one-day strike in February over the same issues.

Acting General Secretary of RMT, Mike Cash, has told union members that he will also be approaching other sister unions, such as TSSA, and seek their support in the industrial action.

London Underground contends that their proposal would see “unparalleled levels of face-to-face customer service, as seen during the London 2012 Games” and a 24-hour tube service on weekends from 2015. They also maintain that there will be no compulsory redundancies as part of their plan.
