A police hunt is underway to find the whereabouts of a boy who was reportedly seen ‘taken into a van’ in Surrey on Thursday afternoon.

A member of the public reported seeing a boy taken into a black van at around 16:30-17:00 on Thursday in Redstone Hill, Redhill.

The boy was described as white, around six or seven years-old, and wearing a red t-shirt and navy blue jeans, and may have been riding the bike pictured above.

Surrey police say they are carrying out a “massive operation” with a large number of officers, police dogs, and a helicopter, and treating the report “extremely seriously”

They say have a “good description” of the black Volkswagen van involved in the incident, but they do not have a number plate and they have not received a report from a parent of a missing child.

The van was described as a “modified VW Transporter van with an 02 registration plate, with no side writing or rear windows, but with sliding side doors, three BBS-make alloy wheels (with the front nearside missing), and with chrome sidesteps.”

Superintendent Bex Smith from Surrey Police said:

“This is an incident we are taking extremely seriously and are asking for anyone with any information regarding the child, the van or what happened to come forward.

“If you were in the area, perhaps commuting to or from Redhill train station at the time please get in touch with us if you saw anything suspicious.

“At this stage we are not ruling out a number of options, including whether the child and the person in the van know each other.”

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Surrey Police by calling 999 in an emergency or 101 and quote “Operation Bigfoot”.
