CCTV camera caught the moment that a bus driver tackled a ‘rowdy passenger’ to the ground over a fare on video.

The footage shows two men alighting from a number 89 bus at Geddes Place, Bexley, before one of them tampers with the bus wing mirror. When driver David Newstead, 43, came out of readjust the mirror one of the men confronts him.

Newstead then heads back onto the bus only for one of the men to tamper with the window again. There is a verbal exchange between Newstead and the two men, but the situation escalated when one of the men threw an object at the driver’s head.

Newstead can be seen then running off the bus and tackling one of the men to the ground after a short chase. A large group of onlookers form around the struggle as the driver grapples with the two men on the floor.

Newstead has been given a six month suspended sentence earlier this year after admitting affray, while the two passengers, Tyler Belgrave-Breeds, 23, and Sean Dickson, 23, are due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on 7 November.
