Travellers were evacuated from London’s Victoria station earlier today after a gas cannister was mistaken for an unexploded World War II bomb.

Workmen at nearby Peabody Avenue in Pimlico are reported to have found the device, and contacted authorities.

All tracks into Victoria were temporarily closed at 11:00 BST and the station was evacuated as a precaution due to the instability of 70-year-old ordnance.

However, the London Fire Brigade confirmed that the cannister was not a threat and authorities reopened the station after around 20 minutes.
