A man has died after collapsing at the finish line of the London Marathon, according to officials.

The 42-year-old man received medical attention at the finish line, before being rushed to hospital where he later died. He has not been named.

Organisers expressed their condolences to the man’s family, saying:

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with them at this difficult time.”

The last recorded death at the yearly running event in the capital was in 2012, when Claire Squires, 30, died of cardiac arrest a mile from the finish line.

Mami Konneh Lahun, who finished 20th in the women’s race, has gone missing. The elite athlete from Sierra Leone is due to fly home later today, but did not return to her accommodation last night and does not have a mobile phone.
