A leading member of the Sicilian Mafia group Cosa Nostra has been arrested in London after being on the run from Italian authorities for almost 20 years.

Domenico Rancadore, 64, had been hiding in plain sight in Uxbridge in west London where he had been running a travel agency, married an English bride, and had a daughter. When police officers raided his property he attempted to flee out of the back door, where an officer was waiting for him, and he described himself as “Marc Skinner”, the pseudonym he has been using in the UK.

The Italian Interior Ministry has said that Rancadore was a senior member of the infamous Cosa Nostra Mafia group, which is based around the city of Palermo in Sicily, and is wanted for crimes of extortion, racketeering, and drug trafficking.

Rancadore has been convicted in his absence from Italy whilst he was a fugitive and faces life in prison. However, the British courts have said that he may yet need to be released due to “significant deficiencies” in the European arrest warrant issued. District Judge Quentin Purdy said:

“The warrant may be such it has to be discharged”

Rancadore was remanded in custody and is to reappear in court again on Friday.

  1. If he was a perfect neighbour I’d be checking my garden for that time I was too sick to tend it and he offered to “plant something”.
