The Stockholm court has upheld an arrest warrant against Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

The Svea Court of Appeal refused Assange’s appeal against the 2010 warrant for his alleged involvement in a case of sexual assault in Stockholm.

Assange, 43, denies the allegations, but has refused to return to Sweden to face the charges in court as he says he fears that he may be extradited to the US for his involvement in the leak of classified US government docuemnts by Chelsea Manning.

In order to avoid extradition to Sweden, Assange has remained within the walls of the Ecuadorean embassy in London since June 2012 when the UK’s Supreme Court dismissed his efforts to block extradition.

In August, the Wikileaks founder recently made a statement in which he said that he planned to leave the Ecuadorean embassy “soon”, but did not elaborate as to an exact date.
