Norwegian police have released photographs of a young man suffering from amnesia and found in a snowdrift in a bid to identify him.

The man was found tied up in a snowdrift near Oslo in December 2013, and according to police:

The man did not possess any form of identification, and did not remember his name, origin, how he ended up in Norway or any other details of his life

He is believed to be of European origin, speaks good English with a Central/Eastern European accent, and understands Czech, Slovak, Polish and Russian. He is also described as 1.87m tall with blue eyes and dark blonde hair.

His fingerprints and photograph were sent to Eastern European police forces via Interpol, but they drew a blank.

The man has been calling himself “John Smith” until he finds more information about his true identity, and agreed to his photograph being released publicly in the hope that someone might recognise him.

Police prosecutor Sturla Henriksbo told Norwegian newspaper VG that certain aspects of the mystery man’s case has led them to believe that he may have been the victim of a crime.
