Cannabis-infused drinks have gone on sale in the US state of Washington, less than two months after the drug was legalised under state law.

The Legal drinks line by Mirth Provisions come cherry, lemon ginger, and pomegranate flavours and each is mixed with 10mg of a different strain of cannabis for a different effect. Each drink is described not only by its flavour, but also the experience or “buzz” it offers.

The company is marketing the drinks as “so ridiculously relaxing that you may find yourself becoming one with your furniture”, but are also keen to point out that they are made without high fructose corn syrup (HFC) and that they use “local fruit whenever we can”.

They are being sold as a more gentle alternative to smoking marijuana, and cost around $10 (£6), but commentators have complained that the sweet flavours target children, who are not allowed to consume the drug under state law.

The approval of the Legal drinks for sale by the Washington State Liquor Control Board, comes alongside the approval of other cannabis edibles including cookies, chocolate bars, and shots.
