Rupert Murdoch has hinted at covering up the topless women on The Sun’s Page 3 after 44 years of attracting readers with nudity.

In two tweets posted earlier today, the media tycoon dismissed feminist opposition to Page 3 but questioned whether “beautiful young women [are]more attractive in at least some fashionable clothes”

The comments were welcomed by the No More Page 3 campaigners, who have recently managed to attracted over 200,000 signatures to their petition calling on editor David Dinsmore to remove to topless pictures.

In a statement, the group said:
“‘Brit feminists banging on about Page 3’ have made Murdoch and the Sun realise that the rest of the country isn’t down with their 1970s sexism. Not that sexism was ever ok!

“What is also really encouraging is the overwhelming response Murdoch got from people all across the country who think that page 3 is sexist and needs to go!”
